STARTALK 2014 Summer Program Application Gateway to China: Language Learning Through Performing Arts Date: July 7-18, 2014 Time: 8 a.m. â 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. July 20 - August 14, 2015. The STARTALK Dari 2015 camp is July 20th through August 14th, 2015 and will be held Monday - Friday from 9:00AM to 3:30PM at the Language Acquisition Resource Center (LARC) at San Diego State University (SDSU). STARTALK Program Descriptions Now Available for Summer 2016. STARTALK is proud to announce that descriptions for all 2016 programs are now available online. Those who participate in the 2014 Summer STARTALK program will receive 10 complimentary weekly sessions with our Distance Learning Center beginning in mid September. Participants will interact with our native Chinese teachers in Beijing, through Skype, to further increase their proficiency levels and build upon what they have learned during the summer program. Program Cost.
The program will be available to 1. Through thematic curriculum and content- based instruction, students will learn about the history of their native country. Students will improve their linguistic ability across all four modalities; that is, reading, writing, speaking, and listening, as well as cultural competence in their heritage language and culture. While teachers facilitate the classes, students will be active participants who must take ownership of their learning.
Through the use of authentic materials, they will conduct research and demonstrate their understanding through in- class discussions, presentations, writhing summaries, and developing portfolios. After completion of the program students will earn four units of undergraduate college credit, through the SDSU College of Extended Studies. There are no fees for participation.
